Google breaks ground on $4B data center in West Memphis

WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (WMC) - In a massive field, filled with huge construction vehicles lined up neatly in row after row, with a giant American flag hanging between two tall cranes, an announcement of historic proportions took place Thursday in West Memphis.

“I’m filled with emotion and joy,” Mayor Marco McClendon told the crowd gathered, “This is the biggest investment in the state of Arkansas!”

“Today I’m very excited to announce that Google is investing $4 billion in Arkansas and in this community through 2027,” said Google President and Chief Investment Officer Ruth Porat, “and we view that as really best positioning Arkansas for the upside from AI.”
